With the nice weather finally starting to creep in, and dare I say it, no more snow in the forecast; the end of March makes me want to dive right into spring cleaning and freshen up the house. I guess its called spring cleaning for a reason, but being 5 months pregnant I definitely do not have that drive in me. Thankfully you can get that spring fresh feeling by changing up the decor slightly in your house, all conveniently located on wayfair.ca

Here’s a few ideas to get started;

Time to reflect: Hang a mirror across from a window to reflect natural light and make a room feel bigger.

Lighten up: If bold colours aren’t your cup of tea, neutrals like white or light gray can really make a space feel fresh and clean. This couch is perfect for that, and some throw pillows, or a pop of colour of a different table is also another way. A light-colored rug on top of an otherwise dark floor is a great accent. Or if you’re up for an easy DIY, save some cash by whitewashing an unfinished end table or some stools!
Hopefully not fashion tips. As I'm rocking yoga pants and work out tanks for the majority of the days - so not fashion foward at all.

As some of you may know I jumped on the Isagenix train for the past month, and as the month is coming to an end, I feel like its my turn to review it.

I did the 30 Day Weight Loss System

I'm sure the biggest question you have is..did it work?

And in short yes.

I went into it as a kickstart to help my start loosing weight in order for me to keep pushing myself to lose more and to finally get to that goal weight. And it did exactly that. I think the main thing if you decide to try this, is you have to know why. Its not going to be a miracle fast weight loss solution, as much as we all hope for that. As every mentor says, its not a fast fix, its a lifestyle change.

This brings me to my next point, and also the reason why I probably didn't lose as much as a lot of other people. It made me realize that we eat pretty damn healthy at our house. Sure we have our indulgences, as H makes me bake a blue cake every week, and I love my wine and craft beer, but other than that I don't eat that many simple carbs, I rarely use sugar (minus the blue cakes), I eat a lot of fruit and veggies, and my hubby is a hunter so we eat lots of lean meat. So my nutrition really wasn't an issue.

However, this has helped me be cautious of the fact that I need to eat every couple of hours and not forgetting (i.e- getting to busy with kids) to eat.

I also didn't work out as much as I probably should. I averaged 3-4 times a week, doing various home workouts like PIIT28 (blogilates), 21 Day Fix, 30 Day Shred. But again, this program has made a good dent in my weight loss journey that its making me want to workout more.

And finally the dreaded cleanse days...well those actually weren't as bad as I thought they would . They left me cold, feeling great the next day, less bloated and kinda tired.

Will I continue it? Perhaps. Not in the strict sense that I was following it, as truthfully I miss eating real food for the majority of my meals. But I do think I will have my one shake a day and do the cleanse day once or twice a month. I may also have to order some ionix. it tastes like shit (there is no other way around this) - but I feel it helped give me some energy.

While I did wish it worked a bit better, I also realize its not a fast fix, its a learning curve.

So my final tally:

Starting weight: 172lbs
Final Weight: 159lbs
Pounds lost; 13 lbs
Inches lost: 21.1 inches

Happiness Gained!

It's been a while since I've been on here. Last I was still preggo with Sawyer. So I figured that a year in review would be ideal.

So, the start of 2017 came and went.

Honestly, I can't remember much prior to June 13th.

Started and finished the basement! Which made this house feel a bit more roomy and more like home.

Twelve:TwentyThree was extremely successful with me branching into the market realm.

Went camping with Hunter, and we realized that this was the first time we went when it was just the three of us. And also the last.

June 13th! The big day. An unexpected day. Went to get an ultrasound as we knew Baby was breeched. So went in to determine when to set a C-Section date, just in case he didn't flip. Turned out the little bugger kicked his way out of the amniotic sac and there was no fluid left. Enter having a baby today. A month early.

Saywer Westin came into the world, kicking and barely screaming as we had to spend 2 weeks in NICU. The longest two weeks. Waiting day by day for the little guy to get stronger, hitting milestones like having the tube removed, moving to a cot, getting the green light for an overnight, to bringing him home! These 2 weeks were spent with a whole lot of emotions, me sitting there with 2 sons, but not being abel to see or hold either of them. Hunter was staying with grandparents. It was such a great day when we got to be home as a new unit of four!

Then reality hit in, and raising two kids under 2. Not as easy. I forgot how easy the newborn stage was and raising a toddler was the hard part.

Hunter turned 2 in September! I can't believe he is 2 already and starting to talk in sentences.

Went to Mexico for Christmas with the in laws! A great little break, where the boys loved the sand and ocean. Also realized how difficult travelling with 2 kids is, and props to all those who do it on a regular occurrence.

Wow! 33 weeks with baby number 2! This time is different. Just read what you wrote to yourself when you were pregnant with Hunter. And remember how lucky you were. This time, well to be honest it hasn't been bad, harder than the first for sure. But when you actually sit down and compare, you've been lucky this round too, just bigger feeling. But lets start at the beginning.

After H turned 1, you and G decided that yup, maybe its time for another one. Then bam. It happened. A lot quicker than either of you guys were thinking. But here we are.

The 6 week and 12 week ultrasounds all came and went. Happy that the babe was growing healthy. With that the first trimester came to an end. This is the first time you actually threw up with a pregnancy -although only a couple times. And felt that hungover nausea feeling constantly. Also combined with having the flu and colds (thanks winter!) made it feel real. And shitty at the same time.

With the second trimester you met a lot of back pain and hip problems. Massages and baths didn't always help and there were times you were stuck on the floor until you could muster enough energy to get up - although H thought this was fantastic. The cravings, while nothing weird definitely hit. Baked goods and ice cream. And chocolate.

Then the 20 week ultrasound. The big gender reveal. A boy. Another one. To be honest, you weren't happy with this news. You had your heart set on a little girl. Apparently gender disappointment is a thing too, you googled it, checked different forums, and realized (after a few tears) that another boy wouldn't be too bad. In fact it will be great to have that brotherly bond between H and little no name. Sure you still get a little sad that you won't get to have that mother-daughter relationship, but hell I can become a crazy mother in-law one day!

Now you are just under 2 months away from giving birth. You pray its as easy as the first one...but have a feeling its going to be a complete 180. The back (and hip) pain and exhaustion is definitely in the forefront. Sleeping is harder this round. But the biggest difference between this pregnancy and the first one; the lack of time to relax. You have to chase a toddler around, bend down and lift him up constantly. You also have the guilty SAHM feeling that you didn't have the first round. You feel that you should keep the house tidy and food all ready and cooked, when all you do is want to nap at the same time H is. I know its all in the head and that G doesn't care, but ya...

This will most likely be the last time you are pregnant and you should revel in it, but you are also so done with feeling like a mammoth and not being able to crawl on the floor and play with H.

7 more weeks!

Love, Kendra
I've fallen away from my love. Reading. Just lately I haven't been able to pick up a book and finish it. I read a few chapters and then forget about it. And not because they didn't hold my attention, because some definitely did. So I got to thinking on how I should get back to making time to read, and I believe that a good portion of back when I was doing more full time book blogging (through netgalley) is that I had lists upon lists of To Be Read Lists, To Be Reviewed Lists, etc. While this may make it sound more like a job - I feel like it actually made me want to read, to cross off those books.

So, I am going to try that again. There isn't as much pressure to review them, just to enjoy them. And while I know my time off to just sit and read is going to greatly lessen come July, I am only going to put 5 on my list. All randomly just picked at random with me just looking over to my bookshelf.

There's been a reason why I've been silent on this blog. Baby Novo # 2 is coming!

We announced on New Years Eve the only way we knew how, with H!

Currently I am 15 weeks into this pregnancy, and I have to say its a lot different than the first one.

Mainly, I was sick the first 3 months. Not really morning sickness related (although I did throw up a few times- which was a completely new experience for me), but with the flu and the cold. Back and forth. It was fun. (high dose of sarcasm there).

This pregnancy I have to say that I am not as overly cautious over what I eat. Sure I avoid the big no's, but when momma craves a hot dog she is having one. I also haven't been as active - as this time around I am more exhausted than I remembered being with H. I also guess its because I have an active toddler to chase after and entertain all day.

Super excited for this next journey. Also a little bit nervous.

We were at the mall the other day and smelt that sweet sweet smell of Cinnzeo, and G and I were both like, yup before we leave we have to pick one up.

Until you have a toddler needing a nap ASAP.

We didn't realize we forgot this precious treat until we were at home, and as the closet mall is 45 minutes away from us, G was like - didn't you make some that tasted exactly like them a while ago. And I was like- Yes, yes I did.

The recipe I used was from Jo's Cook

*Note - I didn't actually make this icing, because 1) I did not have cream cheese other than the herb and garlic kind and 2) I was lazy. So I used store bought canned vanilla icing and it was just as delicious.

These are delicious. I've made them twice so far. Which also means they are easy.

The Goods:

- 2 cups of flour
- 1tbs pumpkin-pie spice
- 1tsp baking soda
- 3/4tsp salt
- 1 cup butter
- 11/4 cups of sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
- 1 package (or how many you want) of chocolate chips

The How To:

1) Preheat the oven to 350
2) Line with foil a 9x13 pan (although I am sure greasing a pan would work as well)
3) Cream butter and sugar together
4) Beat in egg and vanilla
5) Beat in pumpkin puree
6) Reduce to slow and add the rest of the dry ingredients
7) Fold in chocolate chips
8) Put in pan, spread out evenly
9) Bake for about 40 minutes
10) Enjoy!Kendrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11549638575724507778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7058549226206210994.post-67340202962242802342016-10-15T12:58:00.001-06:002016-10-15T13:01:54.545-06:00Mugs.. Perfect for Fall

One of my favourite parts of fall is curling up with a warm cup of coffee (or tea) on the couch with a good book (or movie). And well for me it makes it so much more enjoyable when you have a fun mug to put it in. Here is a collection of some that I am craving to add to my collection!

These are by far the easiest things I made for Hunter's Harry Potter Birthday

First buy some Ferrero Rochers and take the brown paper bit off.

Sample a few to make sure they are safe. heheh

Buy some white feathers.

Buy some tape.

Assemble - I wrapped the tape around a couple of times and it seemed to hold!

and Voila...

My little guy turned one just a little while ago, and I of course had to throw a spectacular birthday party for him. The theme: HARRY POTTER! I figured I'd make him have at least one of them (without argument).

The initial invite stated with a traditional (email) letter from Albus Dumbledore himself, encouraging people to dress in party attire (or muggle wear).

It was a fantastic party, and despite how much work it was making sure all the detail was there (And fact checked!) it turned out great! Thanks to everyone who came out that day to celebrate little H turning ONE!

And soon there will be tutorials on how to make things like the golden snitch and the brick wall!

( I also find it ironic that I am wearing the same shirt while I write this blog post...coincidence?)

You made it one year! Give yourself a pat on the back. Or better yet, pour yourself a glass of wine. You deserve it. You somehow managed to survive. He somehow managed to survive.

You managed to somehow get by on a lack of sleep. And not that he isn't sleeping. He is. But he still whines and whimpers at least 3 times a night, so you don't exactly get a full 6-8 hours either. On those glorious nights where he manages to sleep in its entirety, you feel like superwoman. You get excited when 7pm gets closer and H actually wants to go to bed, and falls asleep quickly. You revel in that time off, to have some one on one time with G.

You managed to run a household. You know that when (and if) he decides to nap. its go time. You make coffee, you shower, you eat, you cook, you clean, you packed up your entire house, you fold laundry, and yes sometimes you nap or watch something mindless on TV. Hell you need a break too sometime.

Especially now that Hunter is walking. He wants to explore. Climb. He has already given himself a black eye. You know he is going to be a bruiser. And you know he is going to be exhausting. Some days all you can do turn on Paw Patrol and watch him play while you sit on the couch drinking your <strike>coffee </strike>wine, waiting for G to come home. Somedays you have no energy to think of something new and exciting to do. And that's okay. Know that he is learning so much right now, that even a simple trip to the grocery store is mind blowing to him.

The teething. The growing pains. All suck. But the snuggles. You sure do love the snuggles, looking down at his sweet face, knowing that you are his only comfort at that moment in time. That makes the heart swoon. It makes it worth all the crying and sleepless nights.

The hair pulling and biting- well that can fuck right off. Who knew little hands and teeth could hurt so much. And H rolling around while getting his diaper changed, you pray he is ready for potty training sooner than later, but hell, at least you've mastered changing a diaper while standing up. And you've only had shit smeared on you <strike>a couple</strike> 6 times.

And at the end of the year of maternity leave, when most mom's are heading back into the work force, you decided to say goodbye to a career (at this time) and become a SAHM. The pressure of wanting to raise a perfect little boy, while having fun and fulfilling activities to do all day - all while trying to make friends in a brand new (small) town... is daunting. It's on your mind a lot. But remember, sometimes Paw Patrol will be enough.

Look back at the past year with fondness. With admiration. You raised a beautiful baby boy who is now a toddler. That year went by so fast. When you were so proud that he murmured for the first time, to rolling over, to sitting up, to crawling, now to walking. Soon he will be talking, potty trained, and then going to schools, playing sports and having his first love, moving out, travelling the world. The growing up scares you, but you also cannot wait for Hunter to grow up. To experience all that the world has to offer.

You still can't believe that a year has gone. Also, don't ever apologize for posting to many pics on instagram. Your kid is the cutest kid alive and well everyone else just has to suck it up.

Love, K
Blackened Taste. Our neighbour gave us a few frozen filets of salmon from his recent fishing trip. so I decided to go onto pinterest and find a new way to prepare it instead of my usual lemon/butter/thai chili flakes.

And I came across a recipe for blackened salmon, and thought perfect! G and I both usually love that type of spice, so I thought it was gonna be a win for sure.

The actual seasoning isn't hard to make at all, just combine all of these spices:

2 teaspoons Garlic Salt
1 teaspoon Paprika
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Oregano
1 teaspoon Black Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Thyme

Then you rub it on the salmon. Again, pretty easy.

I even pulled out my cast iron pan.

G said it tasted old. And I had to agree, it just wasn't worth using the salmon for. I have a sneaking suspicion that it is because of my paprika, as its a sweet/"old" type version..

I cannot believe it is September already. And its something about September that makes me feel like its the start of the year - more so than New Years- perhaps it's because with September usually means a new school year.

And this September is bringing a lot of changes. Not only is H turning 1 (which is a whole other blog post coming soon), we are moving out of Calgary and into a small town. So that means lots and lots of packing. And cleaning. And decluttering. And throwing out a shit ton of stuff that we once thought we HAD to have. I have to admit I kind of like the clearing out process, I find it cathartic almost.

Amongst all this cleaning/packing I am also trying to craft like crazy for H's Harry Potter theme birthday (Also another blog post). I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew, but really - the party is more for me than H.

Anyways, I just wanted to say Hello to September, give a little update! Enjoy the start of fall, now I am off to go get a #PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte for those non-hashtaggers)

It seemed like the perfect rainy day activity, and something different than our normal routine.

Gather the supplies:
- a canvas
- paint colours of choice
- painters tape
- a ziploc bag
- a creative kid.

I chose a simple design, an "H" for Hunter. Then I squirted some blobs of paint on the canvas. When this was done I placed the canvas into the ziploc bag and managed to get paint all over my hands.

Then I let the little artist go to work:

All in all, I think Hunter enjoyed it. It only lasted about 5 minutes once I got the paint in the plastic bag, but that is still 5 minutes of entertainment!

Plus I think the final project turned out pretty cool, I just wished my taping skills were a bit better.

I was searching pinterest for things to do with a 9 month old and this came up a lot - Mixing sugar-free jello (with some food dye) and putting some random toys in it. The ideal outcome is for your little one to have a great sensory experience. I see the promise. I really do.

But, my kid decided to eat the jello and smear it all over him- resulting in a blue little smurf baby.

Ahh well. Time to look into other activities for him to do.

I figured it's about time I do a review on my PIIT28 workouts.

After a few months of being a bit disappointed every time I looked in the mirror and saw my postnatal body, and the lack of pants being able to fit I knew I needed to get my ass in gear and follow a work out program. I was working of and on for so long, but I came to the realization that I need a program to follow.

Enter PIIT28!

PIIT28 is a 28 day workout, in which each workout is only 28 minutes and 40 seconds! So for me that is a win right of the bat. I don't always have time for a full hour workout with Hunter and his lack of naps. 28 minutes is something I can do even if he is playing in his exersaucer.

It also follows a HIIT style format, mixed with pilates and cardio. Which is one of my favourite types of workouts. Get in and get out. I don't have time to waste.

Another thing that drew me to this particular challenge instead of just following blogilates regular monthly calendar is the community that this program promoted. Enter accountability. Follow @justaddchampagne on instagram to see my full #piitsagram challenge.

So what did I think....

After 28 days, I loved it. I am actually doing Round 2 right now, and am excited about the results.

My first few days of doing it, I was drenched in sweat, could barely finish the moves and seriously contemplated only finishing 1 or 2 out of the 4 rounds. However I pushed through, and as the days and weeks went on, I felt stronger. I knew I could do the moves (even if I had to modify them) and I started feeling proud of myself. I knew the more I pushed myself the better the results. And the faster it would come. Sure some days I half assed it just to get the workout over with, but after I knew I could and should have worked harder.

Casey was right. This program isn't just about seeing physical changes. The mental change. I began feeling more confident, I was happy when I looked in the mirror assessing my outfit. I was more energetic. And I think that is the most important part.

But as people want to join a workout program for the physical changes here is my progress pic, from Day 1 to Day 28.

I lost about 4 lbs and a few inches all over. Nothing to huge, but still great for 4 weeks. And look some abs are slowly starting to reappear.

I am extremely happy with this program, the community of popsters, and the price of it is well worth it! Please check out this link if you are interested in reading more about PIIT28/signing up:

I have found a new obsession to add to my diet. Kefir.

I was always a bit skeptical of it in the grocery store because I thought it was just fermented milk. Turns out it's not. It is yogurts super big brother, basically more potent and probiotic filled than the regular stuff. Plus it tastes like Yop. And who didn't love those as a kid?

I have only tired the Liberte version but you can make kefir as well instead of buying the pre-made stuff, and I guess it is pretty easy, although I have yet to try it.

And Kefir has amazing health benefits as well!

Here are some of the top 10 benefits I found:

Supports a healthy immune system - helps combat allergies, as well as act as a natural antibiotic

Natural energy boost, giving you a ton of energy

Helps to curb cravings for junk food, as it is very filling (full of protein) = great for weight loss

Supports healthy digestive system, while supporting regular bowel movements. All the while reducing the amount you fart

Contains high amounts of minerals (especially phosphorus), and amino acids

High in calcium, magnesium, vitmin B-12, vitamin K, Vitamin D and biotin to name a few more

It is great for nursing mothers, as well as for kids!

It’s abundant in tryptophan, which is relaxing to the nervous system

Great for healthy skin (anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties are found in kefir)

Supports a healthy brain, joints, blood pressure

and as a bonus: It's delicious and versatile (throw it in a smoothie, drink in plain)

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">"So many humans. So many colours. They keep triggering inside me. They harass my memory. I see them tall in their heaps, all mounted on top of each other. There is air like plastic, a horizon like setting glue. There are skies manufactured by people, punctured and leaking, and there are soft, coal-coloured clouds, beating, like black hearts. “

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It follows Liesel, a 9 year old German girl, on her journey of stealing books from Nazi Germany book burnings and even the mayor’s wife. She learnt how to read by her father and shares her gift by reading to people in the bomb shelters, and even to the Jewish man hidden in their basement. Her stealing isn’t crazy though. They are methodical and she cherishes every single book she takes.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #41403e; font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.8px;">The mom, Rosa is painted as a hard ass who swears a lot. Being German I can definitely identify with the type of woman Zusak was portraying. Although she is hard on Liesel, you can tell she loves her as her own. The father, Hans, the calmer one of the two, is one of my favorite characters of this book. He is patient, understanding of having a foster child, and is shown as a man of his words when the son of one of his friends shows up at his door and he takes him in. The man at the door is Jewish. Which, given the time was not exactly a person you want hiding in your basement.
<span style="background-color: white; color: #41403e; font-family: "calibri"; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.8px;">Max and Liesel become good friends, he even writes a book for her. It was a beautiful story about his life and to add some more descriptive magic it was written on the back of Mein Kampf. After many scares, eventually Max has to leave the confines of the basement.*Spoliers*It was heartbreaking to read the part where Liesel sees that Max has been captured by The Nazis and is being forced to walk to one of the concentration camps, tears almost formed (who am I kidding, they did).
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Zuzask wrote with such great descriptions of every character, main or not, that you believe the importance of why they were mentioned in the first place. And I wish my review of it was written as well as he did for being a first time author.

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I recommend this book to anyone. Don’t let the setting of the Holocaust scare you away. 4.5 stars.

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">“Please believe me when I tell you that I picked up each soul that day as if it were newly born. I even kissed a few weary, poisoned cheeks.
