MINI book review: Lover Unkown by Ellie Kincade

Lover UnknownLover Unknown by Ellie Kincade
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book was 34 pages.

It's an interesting concept. Get invited to a club (Club Q), get ushered into a dark room and have some sexy fun. No talking, no lights allowed. Just sex.

Hadley seems like a smart women, just craving a little adventure. She finally gave in and allowed herself to try out Club Q.  And she ended up loving it, hoping for a permanent invitation.

Will Hadley actually join Club Q, will her mystery man who put her forward for an invitation actually get to be with her in a dark room?

I don't think I'm going to go out of my way to find out. It wasn't that compelling for me and in 34 pages didn't exactly grab my interest.

I just wish that these authors stop putting out little novellas only to produce a cliffhanger. Write a full book. I mean by the time you produce novella after novella, you will almost be there.

BOOK REVIEW: Office Toy by Cleo Peitsche

Office Toy (Office Toy, #1)

I requested this book based on the cover art only.  I’m not a whore or anything, but how presumptuous is it? I mean, a girl on her knees with a mans hand pushing her head towards his crotch…hmm wonder what this book is going to be about?

And well, it was definitely about that.

First off, this book is very far-fetched and very hard to believe, because if it did happen there would be a shit ton of sexual harassment charges. But that’s beside the point.  Basically the synopsis nails it. Pun intended.

Office Toy is an erotic MfMM (3 guys, 1 lucky gal) BDSM story of 8,400 words.

Elle’s job interview starts with Cunningham throwing away her cheap clothes and sending his assistant to buy new outfits. He’s got her naked, so of course he’ll lay her out on the conference table and claim her mouth. Soon Elle is trussed up, all of her holes stretched full while three hot men have their wicked way.

She loves her first tastes of liberated, naughty sex. But she’d better not start falling for her boss—no matter how safe he makes her feel—because while office sex is encouraged, romance is strictly forbidden.

Elle goes into a job interview for what seems like a promising adverstising company. When asked what she would do for the job, she answers “anything’. And well boss man took that literally. The alpha male- Cunningham- starts the next portion of the interview by stripping her. I mean, that’s normal right? I would run out of there being like ‘hey you know, unemployment works for me’  but that’s just me.

Anyways, being naked only means offering yourself up to your potential new boss. I mean, you have to secure the job somehow. Then 2 other guys join in on the party and the tutorial part of the interview comes. Heehee. Elle gets taught how to deep throat and to take it any and every way.

Good news is that she got the job. Otherwise she woulda slutted it up for nothing and would have to go unhide all her dildos she’s hidden from her mother.

It leads me to question though, what type of work is she going to be doing? Like actual work? Or just being the office toy? How does one market the job position? Does any work actually get done if there are chains and beds hanging from the ceiling? Is this the most profitable way to run a business? How much does one get paid?  Would she get fired if she starts having feelings over one of the three guys? Questions. So many questions.

All in all it was a pretty good 27 page story. Far fetched yet, but steamy fantasy porn like- that is if your fantasy it to have a dick in all your orifices.  I will probably try and read the next installment. Just to answer my questions. Yah, that’s it….

BOOK REVIEW COMPILATION: Impossible Desires by Tamsin Baker and Book Lovers.

Another compilation of two books to review for you.  As they were both novellas/short stories and erotica I feel that it kinda goes together.  Both are ARCs from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Impossible Desires by Tamsin Baker:
Impossible Desires

A widow who likes to control. An earl with no time for innocence. A relationship bound by dark needs and subversive desires set in the glittering world of Regency England.

Lord Gareth Osborne is a wealthy earl in need of a wife, but the insipid debutantes he encounters do not fulfil the darkest fantasies of his soul. He fears that it will be impossible to find a woman who will satisfy his needs and make a suitable companion, until he meets the sensual, self-assured Eleanor.

Lady Eleanor Rossette is newly widowed, though not unhappily so. Her marriage put her into the hands of an abusive, controlling man, and Eleanor knows she will never surrender her control again. She yearns for a strong, passionate man who will yield to her in the bedroom, and she wants that man to be Lord Osborne… goodreads.

Gareth is a young earl who is looking for a wife. Obviously an older widow isn't preferable, but something about Eleanor intrigues him, who is coming from a non-loving, abusive relationship, however as many women back in the day they wanted to be married, have security and social standing, so she was out to seek a husband, and definitely not just a lover.

The two meet at one of the royal dances, and flirting commences. When all of a sudden Eleanor leans ofver a chair and says 'you may fuck me now'... ummm... Really? After leanring that she just wants marriage, probably shouldn't be bending over chairs to wanton bachelors.

Eleanor gives Gareth one month to fall in love with her and to decide to marry. If he chooses no, then its a mutual parting of forever. She is interested in the main goal.  What Gareth doesn't realize is that Eleanor is a little dominatrix in bed, something that her former husband wouldn't indulge and would punish her (not in the good sexy sense) for thinking such unlady like thoughts. It was refreshing to see the women play the dominant in books. All to often they are portrayed as the submissive, do what ever the man says role, so this is an aspect I liked from this book. That being said, you can tell that Eleanor only likes being the dominant role because she has control. Control that she didn't have in her first marriage.  This novella central theme is trust. Trust to give yourself up to your partner and to yourself. This is all and good, but the way its played out kinda irked me.

I'm not really sure what I thought of this book. It was a historical erotic novella. Based on all the other historical fiction books out there, I don't feel like this story needed to be presented in this time period as it didn't really have anything to go with anything. Yes, I get that Gareth is an earl looking for a wife and needs to have one with proper standings, and Eleanor is a widow of proper standing. But other than that... I don't know. I just can't get past the fact that I'm sure Gareth would be freaked the fuck out if an older women was acting this way, especially if they weren't married- just based on the sexual limitations and repercussions placed on women back in the day.

So would I recommend it? Ummm...I guess..... I only gave it 3 stars.

Book Lovers: Stories, edidted by Shawna Kenney

Book Lovers: Stories

Forget poorly written prose and clichéd love scenes: Book Lovers answers the call for sexy literature with substance. This collection of toe-curling tales written by and for word-worshippers offers well-crafted fiction and creative nonfiction that connects literature to libido. From a Vonnegut-inspired tryst to an imaginary ménage à trois with Henry Miller and Anaïs Nin, the book encompasses a veritable buffet of literary fantasies.

Whether they’re conjuring Junot Díaz between the sheets or dreaming of a modern-day enactment of Wuthering Heights—this time refusing Edgar in favor of lusty, bodice-ripping nights with Heathcliff—the stories in Book Lovers are designed for readers’ brains and bodies- goodreads

Book Lovers is a compilation of short stories of erotica based on reading and the written word.

I just finished this book and none of the stories really stick out in my mind. That being said, there were some that were really well written, exciting ones such as "A-Z" and some really really bad ones like Shafted (I  think the thing that bothered me the most of this one was the main character saying 'dadio')

A lot just felt rushed or that I completely missed the point. Maybe it is because I read this at work, so I couldn't fully get into the story line, but some stories like "A Little Irish Honey" and "The Descent" was just like...what the point was that?

I liked that this book main feature was books. How books and the written word can turn you on, and satisfy your innermost desires. Plus, unlike this blog, it was written very well and beautifully.

BOOK REVIEW compilation of Viveka Portman's novellas.

These are all ARCs by netgalley, all opinions are my own.

I was in the mood for some erotic reading, as weird as that sounds. Basically I jsut wanted to read a simple book that would take me no more than an hour to read, so I was scrolling through netgalley and  found these two novellas.  I'm beginning to like novellas even more (especially when I actually know thats what I'm getting myself into). A quick little read.

The Secret Diary of Lady Catherine Bexley by Viveka Portman
(a novella)

The Secret Diary of Lady Catherine Bexley

Lady Catherine Bexley is new to marriage and the marriage bed, but surely there must be more to it than this? Her husband is proper and perfunctory — treating her with careful respect but leaving her aching for more.

When she witnesses a gentleman disciplining a maid at a house party, the ache explodes into ravenous desire. She finds herself no longer willing to wait for her husband’s stiff and passionless attentions — and soon develops a naughty plan to finally get what she wants.

Ahh, the good ol' tale of the man being to respectful while the lady just wants to get railed.

Written in a diary style narrated by Catherine Bexley.

Catherine is new to marriage, and at that time this means being a virgin. Her husband, much older (but that's besides the point) is the epitome of being too gentlemanly, he performs his marriage bed duties, getting off but leaving poor ol' Catherine wanting more. She even questions that maybe women aren't meant to have an orgasm and is meant to feel this longing. (thank god that's not true).

Anyways, at a party Catherine stumbles upon a very illicit act that involves spanking and the not so respectful treatment that her hubby has been given her.  She isn't scared away, she in fact is turned on by this act and now finds it to be her mission to get her husband to perform what she saw.

She tries to seduce him, and he being the gentlemen (aka prude in my books) doesn't get it. She also feels she can't straight up and ask him, as that would be very unlady like. Being a 19 year old, newly married she isn't aware of the protocol of  it either. And surely you have to be respectful to whatever your husband wants!

Finally, the poor girl gets what she wants! (sorry for the spoiler) But it was a happy day.

I enjoyed this one. I couldn't help but feel bad for women back in the day. I'm sure this happened all too much. The women was there just to take the man and sire a child. No desire. No satisfaction. Just being used.

The Wicked Confessions of Lady Cecelia Stanton by Viveka Portman
(A novella)
The Wicked Confessions Of Lady Cecelia Stanton (novella)When faced with a rakish, lusty husband, what is a proper English wife to do but educate herself in the art of bedplay?

“Marriages are strange things, none stranger perhaps than this betwixt me and my lord husband.”

Lady Cecelia is married to the dashing and philandering Lord William Stanton, a situation that would distress even the most composed and refined gently-born lady. However, Cecelia has a secret balm to her dissatisfaction: her maid, Bess Miller.

Cecelia’s inexperience and William’s insatiable appetites fuel her desire to learn, and Bess is a willing teacher. Then, when Cecelia blossoms into pregnancy and can no longer accommodate William’s needs, he distances himself, and Bess becomes her only solace and comfort — and the channel for her most intimate desires. As Cecelia struggles to understand her own feelings, gossip begins to spread. William starts asking questions, and wicked confessions must be made...

Lesbian love back in the day. You know it happened. You also know threesomes happened too.

Cecelia is married to Lord William Stanton, a known philander and sex lover Which was very evident on their marriage night. Again, she is a virgin and the act was nothing but painful for her. While complaining of this to her maid, Bess, she learns some valuable lessons. Bess becomes a teacher of sorts, teaching Cecelia there is much to be pleasurable in the marriage bed.

Cecelia is very fertile, and through every pregnancy her doctor tells her not to engage in sexual activity.  This does not bode well to sex addict William. Throughout these pregnancies William goes to London and fucks around until Cecelia is ready to be his 'one and only'. However, William isn't the only cheater. She finds solace and love in Bess, using each of his escapes to London to strengthen their bond.

However, during one of her last pregnancies she finds herself witnessing her husbands infidelity (the same one that Catherine Bexley witnessed above), and she isn't mad. In fact she is turned on.  And what to do with this, well she actually has the balls and tells her husband. *SPOLIER* She tells him a lot of things too, like that the rumours of her are true and that she liked watching him. And he doesn't flip out, instead he very much welcomes the newfound sexual desires of his wife.

I enjoyed this one very much. It was written very tastefully. But this one left me wanting more. What about the new found sexual needs and wants that each character had, their little menege trois. I feel this could be another novella that Viveka will write.

The thoughts on both:

I didn't realize that they were co-existing books featuring the same characters. I read the Catherine Bexley one first and was surprised to see that some names featured in the other book. That being said, you don't have to read the books in order.  I did enjoy the Cecelia Stanton book a bit more.

Again, its a novella so it is a quick and easy read, but the author does a good job bringing you in. There are no cliffhangers, no unanswered questions but good ol'  historical fiction erotica.  I do recommend these if you want a short little entertaining read. They aren't going to make you all hot and antsy mind you.

BOOK REVIEW: Broken Beauty by Chole Adams (and a rant on how our society deals with rape)

Broken Beauty (Broken Beauty Novellas #1)Sometimes bad things happen to beautiful people.

When socialite party girl Mia Abbott-Renou wakes up in a garden she has little recall of the previous night -- except that she is naked...hurt...terrified. Not only has she been raped, but she knows one of her assailants: the son of a wealthy politician who happens to be her own father’s political ally.

Mia wants and needs justice. Except this privileged boy has an alibi and her father forbids her from going to the police. It’s a critical election year, one that his party might lose if his image as a doting father is soured due to Mia being labeled a lush or worse, promiscuous.

Devastated at not having the support of her family, Mia finds herself in a tug-of-war with her conscience over what to do, especially since she can’t remember exactly what happened that night. Worse, the men who attacked her have hurt several other girls, and Mia may be the key to stopping them.

Mia tries to forget, until the unthinkable happens, and she’s left reeling once again, faced with a new challenge that will force her to take more control of her life.

First off. Reading discretion is advised- solely based on the topic alone. However I do think people need to be more informed on this subject.  Rape is never an easy topic to read, much less review.

Mia, is raped. She even knows who did it. However, because her dad is this big shot politician, she has to stay hush hush about it. I mean, heaven forbid your daughter ruins your political career. I mean, she didn't just get raped of her virginity on purpose.

Oh wait, she did- according to her father - I mean she did wear a dress at the party. I felt so bad for Mia.  Neither one of her parents came to see her, she has to read a scripted account of what happened for a press release- which included an apology for being drunk(and under-aged) when it happened. REALLY? REALLY? Let's blame the victim.

I am so sick of society blaming the victim. Why would anyone ask to be raped and sexually violated? It is not the victims fault. They didn't ask for it based on the dress they decided to wear that night or that they decided to have a few drinks too many.  Those aren't invitations! People show be allowed to wear something without the fear that its going to illicit unlawful attention.

And what are we teaching about the men (and women) in our world? That they can't control their dicks because they see some cleavage? Come on! Give them more credit than that.  ( realize that is a generalized sentiment- however I think it gets my point across). An individual will be raped because some asshole is mentally fucked up and you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Society has given them a list of all these excuses that are deemed acceptable as to why they raped someone.  " Oh,  she bent over and her dress showed a bit to much thigh, I couldn't control my desires, she was kissing me before and seemed into it (even though she said no), she was drunk she wasn't in her right mindset. Come on! If I'm drunk you should be respectful and not take advantage of me. And really? Is it that enjoyable to you to have sex with someone who is passed out?

Another thing that Broken Beauty brought up is the widespread belief held by Mia's father. That you cannot get pregnant through rape. That your body will reject the sperm because it knows it wasn't consensual.  Ummm.....I am sorry. What? Really? You think this is true? Her father is against the morning after pill and abortion.  I am not going to get into the whole pro-life/pro-choice debate here, but I think a women (of any age) who gets pregnant due to rape should have the choice to carry out whatever her choice is (to keep the fetus or not).

There was a few posts on buzzfeed a while ago, where both male and female sexually assaulted victims wrote on card stock of the words the assailant said to them before they committed the crime. It's horrifying and heart breaking to read some of them, as a lot of them make it seem like the victims fault.  How can we as a society even think of helping rape victims if we are constantly telling them its their fault?

Here are those links:

For male victims:

For female victims:

Broken Beauty is part one of 6 novellas. I wish it was just one big combined book so I don't have to wait every 2 months for the next one. I really want to see what happens to Mia and I hope she stands up to her parents- mostly her dad for having some fucked up beliefs on certain things.
