BOOK REVIEW: Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler

I though this book would be soooo funny. Out of all the comedian memoirs I've been reading lately (Ellen DeGeneres, Mindy Kaling) I had high hopes for Chelsea. I think she is a hilarious talk show host, I am usually nodding in agreement and thrilled that she had the balls to say some of the things we all think off.

That is not what you get with this book. I was even drinking mojitos during the majority of my reading time! I kept expecting to laugh out loud, instead I was shaking my head.

She comes across as rude and lewd. They way she writes make her seem like a shittyfriend too. Very judgemental.  And truth be told I am also a judgemental bitch. I think thats why I like reviewing things, but really Chelsea, really? She however would be fun to play YOURS with.

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, ChelseaThe worst part, was probably the second last chapter with the midget. I would like to state that I have absolutely no problems with the vertically challenge but Chelsea's obsession with them was slightly terrifying.

I will provide a few of my almost laugh out loud moments and not just when you type LOL because you have nothing else to say and don't want to hurt the other persons feeling. (this is why it garners 2 stars)

"I rolled over and picked up Us Weekly magazine off the floor. The cover had a picture of Angelina, Brad, and their little Eskimo son, Maddox. I saw staring at the photo, wondering why this little boy looks so pissed off in every picture.

At first I thought he was just pissed about his Mohawk, but then I realized he’s probably furious. Maddox must have thought he hit the jackpot when some A-list celebrity rescued him from third-world Cambodia, only to discover that she was going to shuffle him back and for the to EVERY other third-world country in the universe. He’s probably like, “When the fuck are we gonna get to Malibu, bitch?”

“Then a homeless man with a dog approached us and put his hand out. This happens to be something that I have a real problem with: homeless people with pets who approach you for food when they have a perfectly delicious dog standing right there?”

I did really enjoy the Prison Break chapter.

Based on this book, I am not sure that I will read her other books. I just don't think she can cut it as a writer. Or I would invest in the audiobook version as that may help.

WWW Wednesday #7

This is WWW Wednesdays, hosted by Should Be Reading
To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

1) What are you currently reading?
2) What did you recently finish reading?
3)What do you think you’ll read next?

A Tale of Two CitiesThe Other Queen1) Well, I just finished my book yesterday, brought both my ipad and my kobo to work today, and they are both dead!! What is the luck of that happening? Oh right, its a shitty week, so I went to my hidden bookshelf at work (where I find random books in the lunchroom, I "borrowed" them) and found The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory. I haven't read a historical fiction in awhile so I"m actually pretty excited about it. I hope its good and not left for a reason.

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, ChelseaBabycakes By: Donna KauffmanEighty Days Yellow (Eighty Days, #1)2) I just finished "Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler and meh... I love her as a comedian, but as an author not so much. She came across as bitchy more so than funny. I also started "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens and after a couple chapters I put it down. Not because it wasn't good, but because it seems more of curl up on the couch, cold day kind of read.

3) If I had my kobo/ipad I would be reading something fluffy like  Donna Kauffman's "Babycakes". I just want something to not think and I find 'chick-lits' are the answer or something smutty like Eighty Days Yellow by Vina Jackson

New Feature: Bevvie and a Book

As you may have noticed my blog is called Champagne and Books. That obviously means that I like to drink while expanding my mind.  It was a spectacular hot weekend in Calgary this weekend as I was reading on the deck, I had this spectacular idea for another blog feature. It may have come because of the book I was reading was called  "Are you There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler, or the fact that I was drinking delicious mojito's at the time but....I am going to feature the recipie of the drink that I am currently drinking while reading. Yay? Nay?

Mojito's Kendra Style:

-white rum
-mint leaves
-sugar ( I didn't have liquid sugar so i just sprinkled some into the shaker)
-club soda
-ice cubes

"grind" the mint - I don't have a fancy pestle thingy, so I just kinda rolled them and tried to infuse the flavour.
Add it all in a shaker and shake away.

Note: do not add the club soda in the shaker. It will fizz all over and cause a great mess with a husband shaking his head at you. ( I mean, so I heard)

Enjoy!

I was trying to find up a name for this feature, and the first thing that came to mind is Shitfaced Saturday. I then realized that that is probably not the best title and well, lets be honest I'm not so good at posting on the weekends! So... I'm still working on catchy title; Bevvie and a Book perhaps?
There will also be more pictures, but its a work in progress!
