Top Ten Tuesdays:Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

When I first read this topic, I was like SWEET, super easy. Then I started to compile the list and I was stumped. I sometimes think there are too many books that jump on the sequel train and that they should just be left as is, letting me wonder what could happen.

Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels:

1) HARRY POTTER. Yes. I would love to have JK Rowling continue to write these. There has to be more adventures Harry and the gang can get into!

2) Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. As I was reading it I kept seeing a second novel in the making.

I really could not think of any! So I am switching this to books I wish didn’t have sequels:

1) The Outlander series. I really liked the first one, and the second one and I’ve been stuck on the 3rd novel for about 5 years now. I feel like the plot is getting old and with each book being a gazillion pages long, I can’t see how Diana Gabaldon keeps coming up with ‘new’ things.

2) The Obsidian, Lux craze. Nope. Just didn’t get it.

3) Fifty Shades of Grey. I get it. You like getting tied up and spanked. But after book 3, how many unique sex scenes can you have? I think this is a lot of the erotica type books.

4) The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series. Middle way through book 2 I was done. I still finished all 3 but wow Stieg Larsson knows how to blab on about useless shit. I feel like he could have done it in 2 books if he cut out all the crap.

I think for me the issue is that many authors try and make a trilogy. Easy money, guaranteed followers. But they seem to forget that they should still try and make every book stand out on its own.

So those are my lists.
Whats on yours?

    1. I know Harry Potter would probably lose its appeal if she continued writing, but still! lol!

  2. I could see Gone Girl having a sequel too. I hope it does.

    1. I hear they are making a movie for it too. Wonder how much they will butcher it!

    Totally agree.

When I first read the Outlander series, Voyager was the one I hated the most because I felt like it went on forever and there was too much travelling. And now that I've read the whole series like three times... I actually like it a lot. The first three are still my favorites, but I love the whole damn thing :-)

  5. I agree. Trilogies/series are just easy money for authors and publishers, so they pump those out without pausing to think whether or not the story will actually be good.
Of course, this isn't with everything. Because I would LOVE more Harry Potter books, more than anything else.
And props to you for even making it through The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series. I couldn't even make it halfway through the first book. So. Much. Detail. I loved the movie, though, so I know I'll have to one day try the books again.
